Checco er Carettiere in Roma

About Rest Checco er Carettiere

Checco er Carettiere
Via Benedetta 10 , 00153 Roma

LOVE Checco! I've been to Rome three times since 2008 and have made it a point to visit Checco after first being recommended by our hotel concierge. The freshest pasta, lovely seafood, fantastic traditional Roman meat dishes - cant say enough good things!

I booked because I remember hearing about this place in the past. Before actually going I have read reviews that were not exactly pleasing. I must say that the 'experience' menu proposed for the evening was very good and portions abundant. All typical roman dishes, spaghetti cacio e pepe, matriciana, involtini and desserts. We skipped the coda alla vaccinara as nobody was interested. Flavours of the dishes were well balanced. The spaghetti cacio e pepe were a surprise you could feel the taste of the cacio sticking out in the back of your mouth, the involtini were big and tasty with enough souce, the matriciana was a maybe a bit too rich but was good. Desserts were superb. We had a nice experience adding to this the fact that we were almost alone in the room and we could speak in a normal tone of voice. The place is nice and clean and the walls are covered with pictures dating back to the 50s and 60s of famous actors and normal people that used to go there to eat showing life of an Italy long gone and nicer to live in. Lovely restaurant , very busy as it was Christmas day, definitely worth booking ahead. Meals were fabulous typical ardent, the kids however poreferred less ardent pasta. We were given a plate of lasagna to share and we were not charged for this, it was on the house. Good value for money too, we are a family of 4, and bill was less than 100euro for bread, main courses, beer and wine. Loved the place.
